Andrew Duke
Policy Associate Director for External Affairs for the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau

Andrew M. Duke

Andrew M. Duke is the Policy Associate Director for External Affairs for the CFPB, where he “serves as a liaison to the Director’s Office” and helps to lead “the strategic direction for the Division.”

  • Served six years as Chief of Staff for former House Financial Services Committee Chairman Jeb Hensarling (R-TX), known as one of most outspoken critics of the CFPB and a reliable tool of Wall Street interests.
    • Aided Hensarling as he advanced “dozens of proposals” to gut Dodd-Frank’s reforms and the CFPB’s authority, said the agency “must be functionally terminated,” likened its authority to that of “a Soviet-style command and control economy,” and called its powers “positively Orwellian.’”
  • Served for over a decade as a top aide to Congressman Robin Hayes (R-NC), who was indicted on corruption charges in North Carolina for attempting to “use campaign contributions to bribe the state’s Insurance Commissioner” and pleaded guilty to lying to the FBI.

    • Duke once suggested Hayes would not have entered into a business deal with a transgendered woman had Hayes known her background.
  • In 1996, Duke praised Sen. Jesse Helms (R-NC) as a “‘true conservative’” despite his ugly history of racism.
